Vintage Distillation
Oban has served thrill-seeking sailors for centuries. There’s a wild golf course in a Scottish glen. Plus a whisky distillery that uses methods barely changed since tourism began. Modern adventurers include diving with basking sharks and kayaking to grey seal colonies. Try cycling the Caledonian Way bike route for bird spots and ferry hops. Even Oban Fish and Chip Shop is an experience in itself: try local hake, lobster and haggis.

Reasons to Visit Oban
Oban’s protected harbour has waved off voyagers since records began. Watch Scotland drift past as your Y.CO charter yacht cruises through Loch Linnhe. Make a first stop at the Isle Of Kerrera for kayaks, castles and lots of sheep. For wildlife and mountain bikes, sail on to Mull. Sandy beaches? That’s Coll, where 200 inhabitants share sand dunes and awesome Atlantic views. The surfing is immense.

The Isle of Mull is Scotland’s nature island. A destination where white-tailed eagles divebomb your deck, while risso’s dolphins chase your tender. A traffic jam is when Highland Cows block the entrance to the buzzing port of Tobermorey. Mull is sheltered by the snow-capped mountains on mainland Scotland. Stroll golden sand beaches and paddleboard past puffins. The Mull must-see? Fingal's Cave, an impossible lava grotto propped up by hexagonal basalt columns.
Squeeze into a thick wetsuit. Take a briefing with our local dive expert. Then leap from your Y.CO charter yacht into a shock of underwater colour. Gallanach Reef is garlanded by starfish and scallops. The wreck of the SS Breda is more abundant still. Sunk by World War Two bomber planes, the ship’s cargo of military trucks and army crockery foundered in 7m of sea. The wreck is guarded by conger eels.
Have your camera ready for a 50km sea loch patrolled by golden eagles and grey seals. Loch Linnhe is a centre for canyoning, rafting and white water tubing, preferably followed by a stiff whisky and long massage back onboard. The loch's most tranquil island is Lismore. Position alongside for breath-taking biking, ruined castles and Land Rover safaris. The oysters are superb.
