Bergen

Heart Of Norway

Fjord Focus

Bergen’s two incredible fjords pose two unrivalled adventures. Hardangerfjord is Norway’s second longest. Dangle off a mountain ledge, climb Via Ferrata ladders set in stone, or gun a RIB at high speed through the middle. Sognefjord, nicknamed the ‘King of the Fjords’, is even grander. Paddle to lonely churches, photograph Europe's tallest free-fall waterfall or hike to the continent's largest glacier. Hands up for both!

Fish Tales

Bergen’s Fish Market has been selling pickled herrings and crab claws since 1292. Post a side of salmon to your home address. Or ask your charter yacht chef to grab a tin of caviar for blinis on deck. A local delicacy is king crab, which can grow to 1.8m across. Native to Alaska, king crabs were released by Soviet authorities in Arctic Europe, before they scampered down to Norway. Hence their nickname, “Stalin’s crabs”.

Tie Up Alongside

In Bergen the world's largest luxury yachts can moor alongside. Modern Feadships and vintage cruisers have tied up in ‘The Gateway to the Fjords’. There’s a new dedicated superyacht zone, which is capable of handling the world’s largest private boat. Need a swift exit? Bergen abuts the North Sea and dozens of fjords. Or ask your captain to follow the daily ferry to Denmark.

Seven Mountains

Bergen is called 'the city between the seven mountains'. All are locations for cross-country skiing, rock climbing and extreme photography. The coolest peak is Ulriken. A new cable car glides to its 643m summit in five minutes flat. Dine at Ulriken’s aptly named restaurant, Skyskraperen, for fabulous views down to your chartered yacht. Hike or bike back downhill. A dessert on deck has never been so appealing.
