Interview
We speak to the designer behind SPIRIT's interior redesign.
Acclaimed Swiss interior design firm Dôme Project Interiors completed a stunning new re-design of superyacht SPIRIT’s expansive interiors: a masterstroke of yacht design, inspired by the ocean.
“A symbol of the sea.” That’s how Cécile Demole, founder of Dôme Project Interiors, describes the redesigned 54.3m world-cruising superyacht SPIRIT. “When guests come aboard I want them to feel seamlessly connected to the ocean. To experience both the magnitude and serenity of the sea all around them.” From conception to completion, the ocean was Dôme’s leading inspiration for the project. And today the stunning new incarnation of SPIRIT, part of the highly acclaimed Amels Limited Edition range, is testament to the ocean’s magnetism and majesty.
Cécile Demole founded Dôme Project Interiors in 2005, driven by a passion for interior architecture, furniture and art of every kind. With an elegant, highly sophisticated design style, describe by Madame Demole as “timeless, with a hint of art deco”, Dôme is now one of the leading interior design studios in Switzerland, and since 2005 has designed townhouses in Belgravia, penthouses in Miami, chalets in the French Alps and summer houses on the French Riviera.
SPIRIT however, being a superyacht, and one which takes its design cues from the water on which it sails, both respects the Dôme interiors style but also moves in new directions. It’s sophisticated, yet fresh. It has a certain classicism in style —yet it’s equipped with every modern amenity one could wish for. And while Madame Demole is a lifelong lover of the ocean herself, compelled by the sense of freedom it affords, this project, in particular, is close to the founder’s heart.
When Guests Come Aboard I Want Them To Feel Seamlessly Connected To The Ocean.
Another vital element of SPIRIT’s unique design scheme, besides the ocean, is light. Light dances off cool, gleaming surfaces. The shimmering reflection of sun on water is drawn into interior spaces. Light is treated in such a way that guests may experience the beauty of the surrounding ocean, even when the sun goes down. Madame Demole and her team at Dôme also commissioned artists to create bespoke pieces for SPIRIT, including a sculptural lighting statement by the talented Pieter Adam, which evokes the delicate branches of corals. Approaching lighting design with an extraordinary level of originality and craftsmanship, Adam’s piece alone creates an exceptional kind of sea-inspired ambience on SPIRIT — unlikely any you’ll find on another boat.
Ocean. Light. Two limitless pools of inspiration for the project. The third biggest consideration for the design scheme was family. How does a family live? What might a family do to enjoy themselves? How may a family escape the everyday and spend unbroken, infinitely memorable time together? SPIRIT, created with these questions in front of mind, is so more than an extraordinary design project for life on the water. It’s a home. A place of joy, comfort and security. A place with every opportunity for family pleasure, from its sweeping outdoor spaces and stunning communal areas to its state-of-the-art audiovisuals, family-sized jacuzzi, spa treatment room, teppanyaki grill, 7m waterslide, WaveRunners, SeaBobs and windsurfers. And, of course, its passionate, dedicated crew. “We wanted SPIRIT to feel like a home for everyone who experiences it,” says Madame Demole. “Welcoming, warming and infinitely elegant.”
A luxurious long-range explorer yacht capable of cruising from Alaska to the Caribbean, at speeds of up to 15.5 knots. A stunning new re-design completed in 2020. A fantastic crew with many joint years’ experience of serving the most discerning clients. A soothing, seamless connection with the ocean around you. The ultimate expression of freedom. A true, powerful symbol the sea. For anyone hoping for an unforgettable charter experience, SPIRIT will not disappoint.
